Project Photographs

Photography has been my passion since the age of 14. To this day I remember the very first image I watched appearing in a tray of developer. During the past few years I have contributed to several book projects including America 24/7 and Mississippi 24/7. The digital photography book projects captured the activites of people from all walks of life over a weeks time. Personal projects include work from a trip to Honduras and images displaying the wonderful work of quilters.

Each cover leads to photos found in the publication or to groups of images that are part of ongoing personal projects.

America 24/7

America 24/7 Bookcover America 24/7 brought together some of the best photographers in america for one week of intense work in May 2003. The all digital photo project is considered one of the most logistically difficult publishing projects ever attempted. Hundreds of thousands of digital files were collected from over 1,000 photographers and edited down to a few hundred images for use in the book. I was one of 20 contract photographers used in Mississippi.

Mississippi 24/7

Mississippi 24/7 Bookcover Mississippi 24/7 is the state version of the popular America 24/7 digital photo project. During a week in May 2003 over 1,000 photographers from across the United States searched for unique people and places to photograph. I was one of 20 photojournalists selected to create images in Mississippi. My photo of a man changing light bulbs in the dome of the Mississippi House of Representatives was selected as the cover.

Rebel Run

Rebel Run Bookcover The Ole Miss Rebels were looking to finish the 2003 football season with a bowl victory. Quarterback Eli Manning was rewriting the record books. The team earned a trip to Dallas to compete against Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. A sell-out crowd watched as Manning lead the University of Mississippi to victory. The Clarion-Ledger produced a book capturing the season. My photo of Manning appears on the cover.

Mississippi Quilts

Mississippi Quilts Bookcover Mississippi Quilts features over 100 antique quilts that have found a home in Mississippi pre-1945. This wonderful collection of quilts was pulled together by the Mississippi Quilt Association and published by University Press of Mississippi. During the creation of these images I constructed a shooting platform two-stories tall to allow rapid positioning of the fragile creations. The book includes photos and histories of pre-Civil War quilts made from silk to those created from flour sacks. An additional section introduces a few of Mississippi's most talented present day quilters.

Greater Jackson/Welcome Home

Greater Jackson Bookcover Greater Jackson Welcome Home is a look a comtemporary life in Mississippi's largest metropolitan area. The coffee table book features dozens of photographs displaying the activities and neighborhoods of the capital city area. Sports, shopping, and office life are profiled in this 271 page four-color publication. My photograph of the downtown Jackson skyline appears on the cover.

The Honduras Project

Honduras cross image Honduras turned into an exploration of my photographic roots. I learned my craft with an old twin lens reflex camera and 2 1/4 black and white film. There were only 12 shots per roll and all adjustments had to be made manually. In my daily world of motor drives and digital previews the return proved to be very relaxing. The vintage camera forced me to slow down and be critical in my composition. None of the images were cropped during printing and final print size was 20x20 inches.
