Wall Climber
The end of school brings hours of free time to spend on outdoor activities. The child-size climbing wall in Laurel Street Park offers children a safe and fun way to enjoy a great physical activity. -
Elephant Walk
Drivers in downtown Jackson got quite a surprise as they came to a stop on Pascagoula Street. The circus arrived in town for a series of performances. The livestock used in the show are transported by train to a rail stop close to the Mississippi Coliseum. The elephants are then walked to the performance site to the enjoyment of drivers and spectators. -
Camp Shelby Training
The 155th Combat Engineers are made up of soldiers primarily from Mississippi. The battalion under went rigorous training at Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg, Miss, prior to shipping out overseas. Part of the process included a series of exercises designed to familiarize the troops to the sites and sounds they'll encounter in country. Arabic speakers, many from Iraq, played towns people who could quickly transform into a screaming mob. -
Hello Mr. Bunny
A youngster attending the annual egg hunt in Clinton Mississippi isn't sure what to make of the large pink rabbit that was hopping about the park grounds. The event draws hundreds of elementary age children to the small town to participate in the family friendly activity. -
Dinosaurs Visit the Jackson Zoo
Dave Wetzel, the general curator at the Jackson Zoo, seems to have a dinosaur by the tail during the off-loading of the massive creatures Thursday, February 27, 2003. The zoo is the site of Dinosaurs Unleashed, a display featuring numerous full scale models of the prehistoric creatures including the dilophosaurus. -
Chess Staredown
Chess players from across Madison County gathered at Madison Upper Elementary School to compete in the annual chess tournement Friday. The 6th annual competition drew 78 players in the second through fifth grades from the county's gifted program. -
Blind Artist Project
Artist Sharon McConnell's historical "Blues Great" project makes life casts of blues muscians. McConnell is blind and creates extremely detailed masks with a tactile approach. After the mask is cured a plaster cast can be made. The portrait retains the detail in the facial hair and lines of life.
